Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it earned a very impressive long-term care grade. In fact, this turned out to be its best grade. In that area, we awarded this facility an impressive grade of A. For patients looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 82.28571 percent of its residents. This is slightly below what we anticipated but still a respectable figure. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Adding to its impressive category grades, this facility also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an A. Not many nursing homes performed better in this area. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. In computing our nursing grades, we factor in both staffing levels and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of moving residents more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The next category we assessed is short-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a strong grade of B. In computing our short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to formulate a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. We were not able to find information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The last metric we assessed in this category is the number of residents who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
