Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This nursing home earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent government inspections in recent years. We gave them an A- in this category. Arguably the most important factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with better grades in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, we also wanted to note that this facility was awarded positive long-term care marks in this assessment. We gave them one of our more favorable grades in that category, with a grade of B. This proved to be the nursing home's second best score. If you are seeking services other than short-term rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 91.908714 percent of its patients. This is a few points less than we were hoping for but still a decent percentage. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The third best area we gave this facility in any category came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a B-. In our short-term care rating, we endeavor to craft a fair barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze a nursing home's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its level of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 5.1 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

This nursing home's least impressive area was nursing, which is the last area we assessed. It received an abysmal F in this area. Despite multiple acceptable scores in other areas, this grade is nevertheless disappointing so we wanted to make sure you are aware. When calculating our nursing scores, we weigh both nursing hours and the skill levels of the nurses. This place averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This statistic is well below the national average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing scores. This facility fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
