Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to faring well in its overall grade, this facility earned a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, we gave it one of our best grades in this area with an A. Arguably the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Places with better grades in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This means the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its top-shelf assessment, this facility also was awarded a superb long-term care grade, with a score of A-. Facilities that receive this type of grade in this category typically provide consistent around the clock care to ensure patients are well cared for. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia sadly can be a dangerous health condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing category assesses many subcategories, most of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the final area, this nursing home also was awarded an excellent short-term care grade, with a grade of B+. This rounded out a very strong profile. Our short-term care scores are thought to be more meaningful for people requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing services. This means not merely nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.2 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
