Facility Inspections
Although we gave this nursing home a weak overall rating, we awarded it a somewhat respectable grade in the category of inspections, where it received a grade of B-. This was quite a bit better than its other categories. Inspection scores are based on many items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these reports. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This facility received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to resident safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
Nurse Quality
We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of B-. Our nursing grade is largely based on a facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed better than average in this area. This is typically a good indicator of how carefully a facility's nursing staff is tending to its residents. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses and better safety protocols are used.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility received its next highest category score in the area of short-term care. We awarded this facility a B- in this area, which is a respectable score. In calculating our short-term care grades, we analyze a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This grade is generally a solid measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This proved to be more of a strength for this facility. In fact, we found that it outperformed the majority of facilities in the nation in this area with 52.1 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
Our last category is long-term care, in which we awarded this facility a C in that category. Our long-term care grade assesses a nursing home's assistance with daily living rather than the skilled nursing or medical services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. One of the factors we considered after nursing hours was vaccines. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to a relatively low 81.86969 percent of its residents. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this place had 2.19 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this figure is quite a bit higher than the national average, this number can be skewed for some nursing homes due to the medical complexity of residents.
