Facility Inspections
Although this facility's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it performed pretty well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B+ for that area, which is one of our better scores. Our inspection grades are based on several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these reports. Most importantly, you should avoid nursing homes with severe deficiencies linked to risks to resident well being. While this facility had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C for its long-term care score, which is not a bad grade. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. We were disappointed to learn that this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 79.31034 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Nevertheless, this facility excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
Unfortunately, we gave this facility an F for its nursing grade. When calculating our nursing grades, we factor in both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing scores. This place fared well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we rated is short-term care. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this category, which is a poor grade. In our short-term care grade, we try to craft a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze a facility's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who ultimately returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
