Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A-. Few facilities performed better in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. This place was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple of minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was given a favorable score in our long-term care category. We gave this facility a better than average grade of B in that area. Facilities that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 98.23232 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly is often a deadly health condition for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a facility does not roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. While it had 1.76 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was better than most nursing homes due to it having more complex patients.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of C in this category. There are a variety of datapoints within this grade. Most of these factors relate to nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also considered some quality-based statistics in this category. Although this place didn't rank highly in terms of nursing hours, it performed better in some of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the number of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, this nursing home fared better than average. This is typically an indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided with better nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we assessed is short-term care. We gave it an abysmal F in this area, which is a poor score. This is clearly a major disappointment. Short-term care grades are commonly employed to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To have highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. Considering its score in this category, we weren't surprised to learn that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. Honestly, this was what we expected to find. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 40.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
