Facility Inspections
This facility received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this category. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple relatively minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this nursing home a strong score in long-term care. This nursing home received a B in this area, which is one of our more favorable scores. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 82.39095 percent of its residents, which is a few points less than we anticipated. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 2.4 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
This facility's next best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. Our nursing score is based on a handful of subcategories, but the main one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. Based on the CMS data, this nursing home offers 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at a few quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home was above average in many of the major areas we assessed, with good scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we rated was short-term care, which is this nursing home's worst area. We awarded this facility a D in this area. Naturally, this category pulled down the nursing home's overall profile to a certain degree. Short-term care grades are based on a nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a broad range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well in this area. In fact, we found that just 41.4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
