Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this place also excelled in the category of inspections, where it received an A. Few facilities performed better in this category. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this area typically have very few of these severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies should not lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of this facility's higher category scores was in the category of long-term care. This wound up being its second most respectable category. In that category, we gave this nursing home a B-. Our long-term care scores are based on the nursing home's quantity of nursing care. This means a vast range of personal care services, ranging from help with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. One of the statistics we considered after nurse's aid hours is vaccinations. We were a bit alarmed this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 40.15444 percent of its patients. On a more positive note, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The third category we graded was short-term care, where this facility was awarded a C in this category. With our short-term care category, we attempt to craft a fair gauge for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze a facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical facility. Finally, we considered the number of patients that were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Switching gears to our last area, we awarded this nursing home a D in the area of nursing. This is the nursing home's least impressive category rating. The nursing score analyzes a handful of subcategories, however, the most important one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This particular nursing home offered just 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This number is significantly below average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing scores. This place fared well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these statistics to be indicators of the quality of nursing care.
