Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While we were not very complementary of this nursing home's overall grade, it actually received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite insignificant. This nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to resident safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

One of this facility's more respectable category scores came in the area of long-term care. This turned out to be its second most respectable category. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of B-. Long-term care grades are based in part on the facility's amount of care. This means a broad scope of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is a very solid statistic. This place keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. Nursing ratings are primarily based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This place performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final category we rated is short-term care. This nursing home received a very poor grade of F in that area. In our short-term care category, we try to create a meaningful gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at the nursing home's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Considering its poor rating in this category, we were not stunned to learn this place provides substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most nursing homes. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 3.8 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
