Grade: A

On top of being a strong facility overall, this facility also excelled in our inspections category, where it earned an A. Not many nursing homes fared better in this area. Inspection scores are based on several pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home also was given an impressive long-term care score. Indeed, we awarded it an above average score of B in this category. For prospective residents seeking a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 71.80851 percent of its residents, which is a few points lower than we expected. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B. There are numerous factors within this area. Most of these datapoints are tied to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of moving patients more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Our last category is short-term care, in which we awarded this nursing home a grade of C in this area. Our short-term care scores are likely most meaningful for residents needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally requires additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not just nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that just 3.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
