Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our nursing grade. We scrutinized the qualifications of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses spent with residents, in determining our score in this area. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home California in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a system of turning patients more frequently.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Adding to its impressive profile, this nursing home also performed well in the category of inspections. In fact, it earned a nearly flawless government inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our highest grades in that area with an B+. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility received a favorable long-term care score as well. We gave it one of our higher scores in that area with a grade of B. Facilities that receive this kind of score in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are well cared for. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Turning to our fourth category, this nursing home was given a respectable short-term care grade of C. Our short-term care scores are crucial for individuals looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing. This includes a vast spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 3.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
