Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

On top of being a quality nursing home overall, this facility really excelled in nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Our nursing grade is mostly tied to the facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving patients more often.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This facility also performed well in our inspection category, which is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. In fact, we gave it an A- for that area. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this area tend to have few severe deficiencies. This facility received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies an imminent risk to resident health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Turning to an additional strength for this facility, we gave them one of our higher grades in our short-term care category as well, with a B. In this process, we look at a facility's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The final category we assessed is long-term care. We awarded this facility a C in this category. In computing our long-term care scores, we assess the facility's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 91.01124 percent of its patients. This is somewhat lower than we anticipated but still a decent figure. Fortunately, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
