Nurse Quality
We also want to point out that this facility excelled in our nursing grade. We gave them an A+ in this category. In calculating our nursing grades, we weigh both nursing hours and the skill levels of those nurses. This place provides an incredible 5.7 hours of nursing care per resident daily. Out of this total, many of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering high levels of care, this nursing home was also above average in several of the major quality measures we looked at in this category. By way of illustration, it performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. These are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home offers.
Short-term Care Quality
This top notch facility also performed well in the category of short-term care, where it received a score of A+. Few facilities fared better in this area. Our short-term care ratings are important for people needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a broad scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. This nursing home provided more physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes. This is what we like to find when assessing a nursing home in this category. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that this facility was above average with 55.6 percent of its residents able to return home.
Facility Inspections
Another impressive feature of this facility is its inspection grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. Inspection scores account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few relatively minor dings aren't something to panic about.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the final area, this facility also performed well in the long-term care category. We gave it a grade of B+ in that area. This finalized a very impressive report card. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. One of the data points we considered after this facility's above average nursing hours is vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 99.56896 percent of its patients. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths for seniors. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.12 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than most nursing homes.
