Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of being a strong nursing home overall, this place especially excelled in our inspections category, where it received an A. Few facilities performed better in this category. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Unfortunately, it does not look like we were able to find deficiency counts for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility was given a favorable long-term care grade as well. We awarded it one of our higher scores in that category with a score of B+. Facilities that excel in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 99.509 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's third highest area ended up being short-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a B-. With our short-term care assessment, we seek to craft a meaningful gauge for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze a facility's scope of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final item we assessed in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that just 4.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

The final category we analyzed was nursing. We gave this facility a grade of C in this category. When computing our nursing grades, we factor in both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This place provides only 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a somewhat alarming figure as it is well below average. Finally, our nursing scores also consider quality-based metrics, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this facility performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls can be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses to assist its residents.
