Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to faring well overall, this facility earned a nearly flawless inspection report. Consequently, we gave it one of our best scores in that category with an A. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. In that category, we gave this facility an A. Our nursing rating weighs many datapoints, but the most important one is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home also was given a impressive long-term care score. In fact, this turned out to be its third best category score. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A. When facilities receive this kind of score in this category it is typically a good sign for patient care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia tragically can be a dangerous illness for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Turning to our next category, this facility was given an acceptable short-term care score. Even though this isn't quite as impressive as several of its other grades, this is truly not a terrible score. Our short-term care ratings are arguably more critical for folks needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final measure we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.9 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.
