In addition to being a quality nursing home overall, this nursing home really excelled in the area of short-term care, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes fared better in this area. In forming our short-term care grades, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to formulate a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. This nursing home is above the national average both in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents. These are generally good indicators of quality short-term care. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in Arkansas in this area with 59.8 percent of its residents returning home. With most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. Our nursing grade is mostly based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This place provided 4.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, which is among the highest figures in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the more skilled levels of nurses. We were really impressed by both of these statistics. In addition to looking at levels of nursing care, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these datapoints as predictive indicators of the quality of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

This facility also received favorable inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite minor. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

The last area we analyzed is long-term care. In this category, we gave this facility a grade of C. In calculating these long-term care grades, we look at the facility's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. One of the criteria we considered on top of this nursing home's impressive nursing hours is vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 98.79518 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a great way to minimize negative health outcomes for the aged 65 and up population. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
