Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We awarded this nursing home an impressive grade of A in short-term care. In computing our short-term care scores, we look at the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other highly trained professionals. This area is generally a solid measure of a facility's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In that category, we gave this facility an B. There are quite a few criteria within this category. Most of these factors are tied to nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

Among this place's alarming category grades was an F for its inspection score. More often than not, this indicates we found red flags on the nursing home's government inspection reports. When a place has this poor of an inspection score, you should look for severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This particular nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies by government inspectors. The only positive thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they created a risk to resident health or safety. Finally, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was assessed large government fines of more than $50,000. This often suggests that government inspectors became frustrated after several years of failed health inspections.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

This facility's weakest category is long-term care, which is the final category we assessed. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F in this category. Even with several decent grades in other categories, this score is still of a concern so we would like to to make a note of it. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 98.7013 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
