Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it an A- for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's second most favorable area was short-term care. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. This is essentially a middle of the road grade in this category. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. This grade is more often than not a solid measure of the nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Unfortunately, we found that this facility provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The tricky part is determining what effect this had on the quality of care. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This was a much stronger area for this facility. This place outperformed most nursing homes in this metric with 62.2 percent of its residents returning home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

This facility's next best category was nursing, but even there it received a grade of just D. This is still a well below average grade. The nursing score weighs several datapoints, most of which are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This place averaged just 3.1 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is an alarmingly low total. On top of receiving below average scores for nursing hours, this nursing home was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in calculating our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and found this nursing home was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this statistic. This is likely a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This statistic really dragged down this facility's nursing score significantly.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The last category we looked at is long-term care. This facility received an abysmal grade of F in that category. Nursing homes that don't fare well in this category typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine healthcare services we assessed. After we finished looking at the amount of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 91.55844 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.77 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.
