Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also found that this facility excelled in long-term care. We gave them an A+ in this area. Facilities that excel in long-term care tend to provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. After looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 99.28058 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is far higher than most nursing homes. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A- in our nursing category. Nursing scores are mostly based on a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This facility has received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this category. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

In the last category, this facility also was awarded a first-rate short-term care grade, with a grade of A-. This rounded out a very strong profile. In forming these short-term care ratings, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to devise a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last measure we considered in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
