Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of receiving a strong overall score, this nursing home also excelled in our inspections category, which is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A in that category. Inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this category usually have very few severe deficiencies. While this facility had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Adding to its strong profile, this facility also received a dominant short-term care score, with a score of A-. In forming our short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The goal is to devise a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Unfortunately, we weren't able to locate information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. When calculating a facility's nursing score, we assess the amount of time nurses are caring for patients and the level of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home averages 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning patients more frequently.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

The last category we assessed is long-term care, where this nursing home received a grade of A-. This rounded out a first-rate profile. Not many facilities received an A- or better in every single category. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 97.63033 percent of its residents, which is significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
