Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to receiving a great overall score, this facility performed well in long-term care. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. When facilities receive this kind of score in long-term care it is typically a good sign for resident care and indicates that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 99.02913 percent of its patients, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly is often a life threatening condition for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This facility has received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this category. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A- in our nursing category. When computing our nursing ratings, we factor in both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the training levels of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Turning to the final category, this facility was awarded an excellent short-term care score. Even though this is not as good as several of its other scores, this is nevertheless one of our stronger grades we offer. In computing these short-term care scores, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to formulate a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Unfortunately, we were not able to track down information on registered nurse or physical therapy staffing for this nursing home. The last measure we looked at in this category is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that 4.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
