Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to being a quality nursing home overall, this facility excelled in the category of short-term care, where it received an impressive grade of A. Short-term care grades are generally used to assess a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To have highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 6 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

Adding to this nursing home's list of strengths, it also received an excellent nursing grade. We awarded them an impressive grade of A in this category. Our nursing score is primarily associated with a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Moving on to another of this facility's strengths, it also earned a very impressive inspection rating. In that area, we gave this nursing home an impressive grade of B+. Inspection scores are tied to items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this area typically have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This facility received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't something to panic about.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

Turning to our fourth area, this nursing home was awarded a decent long-term care grade. While this wasn't quite as dominant as a few of its other scores, this is still not a poor grade. In a long-term care setting, the primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 92.21311 percent of its patients. On a more positive note, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
