Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received an A+ long-term care grade. Nursing homes that receive this kind of grade in this category tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are kept in good health. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is much higher than most nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

This facility also received an A+ inspection score, making it one of the rare facilities to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. This is based on the facility's inspection reports. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this category most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also want to alert you to the fact that this facility was given a top-shelf score of A in our short-term care area. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we scrutinize the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This rating is typically a solid measure of the facility's rehabilitation. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We found that 0 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

In our final category, we gave this facility an A+ for its nursing grade. This completed a very strong report card. We looked at the skill-level of nurses working for the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses spent with patients, in determining our grade in this category. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place Nebraska in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of turning a resident at least once a day.
