Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although we did not have many positive things to say about this nursing home's overall grade, it did receive a somewhat respectable government inspection report this year. It received a decent grade in that category with a B-. Inspection grades are based on datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This place was assessed 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home was awarded its next best category score in the category of short-term care. We gave this facility a grade of B- in this area, which is a respectable grade. With our short-term care score, we endeavor to craft a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we assess a nursing home's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The key is determining what effect this had on the quality of care. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 5.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well below average.

Long-term Care Quality

The next category we assessed was long-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a C in this area. In calculating our long-term care ratings, we look at the assistance with daily living received by a facility's patients. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to discover that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

The final area we scored was nursing, which turned out to be a weak spot for this facility. We awarded this facility a D for nursing. Nursing grades are based largely on quality and quantity of nursing care. With a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily, this place's nurse staffing levels were far below the national average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
