Long-term Care Quality
Even though this nursing home's overall grade was abysmal, it didn't perform quite as poorly in the area of long-term care. In fact, we awarded it a grade of C for that area, which isn't bad. Unfortunately, this was not enough to salvage its otherwise weak profile. Long-term care grades are often used to assess a facility's performance as a traditional convalescent home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services offered by a skilled nursing facility. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours was vaccines. Fortunately, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. This place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.04 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Facility Inspections
Interestingly, this facility's awful overall score can't really be attributed to its inspection reports. We gave it a C for inspections. Inspection ratings are based on items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This place had 6 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This means inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to create an imminent danger to resident safety or health. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received some government fines in recent years.

Nurse Quality
Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. The nursing score consists of a handful of factors, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. With just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were well below average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing scores. This facility fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we assessed was short-term care, which was this nursing home's least impressive area. We awarded this facility a D in that category. Our short-term care grades are based on the facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other types of therapy. With a grade in this range in this category, we weren't shocked to learn that this place was below average in many staffing figures we focus on. In fact, it offered substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other facilities. Finally, we assessed the number of patients that were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
