Registered Staff Hours
While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it an A for our inspections rating. This score is significantly more impressive than the nursing home's overall grade. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
One of the other reasons we graded this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of D. Our nursing grade considers a number of subcategories. The most important factor is the number of hours nurses spent with patients. This place offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these metrics to be measures of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality
We gave this nursing home just a D for our long-term care score. This is not a score to write home about. Facilities that don't fare well in this category often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in a few of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. Candidly, we were a bit alarmed this facility vaccinated 71.55556 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which happens to be quite a few points below average. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed was short-term care. This nursing home received a rock bottom grade of F in that area. Short-term care grades are generally employed to gauge a facility's rehabilitation services. To provide good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must offer better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. As you might expect, we learned that this nursing home offers far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical nursing home. Finally, we considered the number of residents who returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
