Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While this facility's overall grade was decent, it really fared well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our best scores. Perhaps the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility an B. The nursing score analyzes quite a few subcategories, many of which are tied to nursing hours. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving patients at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this nursing home only earned a D for its short-term care rating, which is not an impressive grade. Short-term care ratings are meaningful for prospective residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing. This includes a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Considering its grade in this category, we weren't stunned to find that this place is well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. Frankly, this was what we expected here. The last measure we considered in this category is the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.3 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next category we analyzed was long-term care, which turned out to be this nursing home's weakest category. Unfortunately, we gave it an F for this category, which is obviously very disappointing. For patients in need of a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 99.545456 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
