Registered Staff Hours
Facility Inspections
This facility earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent inspection reports in recent years. We awarded them an A in this category. Our inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better scores in this area usually have few severe deficiencies. This place received 11 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to be an imminent risk to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
The second highest area we awarded this facility in any category came in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. Short-term care scores are based in part on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, this facility was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. The question is whether this adversely impacted quality of care. The final measure we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 5.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.

Long-term Care Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a respectable grade in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of C. Our long-term care grades are more important for individuals needing more traditional services related to personal care. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. Fortunately, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
Nurse Quality
The next category we analyzed was nursing, turned out to be this nursing home's weakest category. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in that area. There are numerous data points included in this area. Many of the subcategories reflect levels of nurse staffing. This facility offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. On top of its subpar nursing hour totals, this facility also received suboptimal marks in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at in computing our nursing grades. We found that more of this facility's residents experienced falls leading to serious injury. We would argue that many falls could likely be prevented with better nursing care. This metric contributed to this nursing home receiving a poor nursing rating.
