Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a grade of A- for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Inspection ratings are tied to datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. Most importantly, you should avoid facilities that have severe deficiencies linked to endangerment of patients. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home really excelled in the category of nursing, where it received a grade of D. There are a number of factors within this category. Most of the subcategories reflect nurse staffing. With a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day, this place's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below the national average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This place fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the category of long-term care, this facility was awarded a grade of just D in this area. For patients looking for a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 99.4723 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to our last category, this facility really did not perform very well in this area either. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is about as bad as it gets. In calculating these short-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to devise a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This definitely wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 4.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most facilities, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
