Registered Staff Hours
Although we gave this nursing home a terrible overall grade, we awarded it an A- for our inspections score. This grade is far more impressive than the facility's overall score. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had some deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Among this nursing home's several poor grades was its F in the area of nursing care. Our nursing grade is largely based on the facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home offered a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This number is significantly below the national average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This place performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Does this page answer your questions about Brickyard Healthcare - Terrace Care Center?
Long-term Care Quality
Tragically, this facility received an F for its long-term care grade. In a long-term care setting, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. Once we assessed the quantity of nursing care, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination records. We were optimistic to discover that this nursing home vaccinates 99.2629 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
Short-term Care Quality
Moving on to the next area, this facility really did not fare well here either. With a poor grade of F in short-term care, this is just about as bad as it gets. In computing our short-term care ratings, we size up a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This area is typically a fair assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation. Given its abysmal rating in this category, we were not surprised to learn this facility offered significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 4.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
