While this nursing home's overall score was terrible, it actually fared pretty well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B for that area, which is one of our better scores. Inspection grades are based on several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. You should especially avoid nursing homes with severe deficiencies associated with endangerment of patients. This place received 9 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Moving on to the category of short-term care, this facility received just a D in that category. As it turns out, this wound up being one of its better features. Short-term care scores are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Based on its weak rating in this category, we weren't stunned to discover that this facility offered far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most facilities. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 41.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

The third area we graded was long-term care. This nursing home's was given a rock-bottom long-term care grade where it was given an F. For prospective patients seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. We were optimistic to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 95.34884 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Finally, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.67 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure is not nearly as favorable than its vaccination record.

The next category we assessed is nursing. We gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is a very poor grade. The nursing score weighs a number of factors. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. With a meager 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, this place's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below average. To pair with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility.
