Facility Inspections
To go along with its relatively modest overall score, we gave this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. This is far better than its overall rating. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was given a positive short-term care grade. As a matter of fact, we gave it a grade of B+ in this area, which is one of our better. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to formulate a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients that returned home from this nursing home. It fared as well as just about any nursing home with 68.7 percent of its residents returning home. Most facilities are below 50 percent in this statistic.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at is long-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a decent grade of C. In determining our long-term care scores, we analyze the personal care received by the nursing home's residents. One of the statistics we considered after nursing hours was vaccinations. We were a bit alarmed this facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to only 29.354841 percent of its residents. Nevertheless, this nursing home keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 1.29 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a much lower hospitalization rate than the majority of nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
The next area we looked at is nursing. In this category, we gave this nursing home a C. When determining our nursing scores, we weigh both staffing levels and the training levels of those nurses. This nursing home averages just 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, although this nursing home didn't rank well in terms of its nursing hours, it performed much better in some of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the number of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home performed better than average.
