Short-term Care Quality
One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ in short-term care. Our short-term care scores are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a broad scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 6.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A. In calculating our nursing ratings, we look at both nursing hours and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality
The third area we assessed was long-term care. Contributing to its top-shelf resume, this facility also excelled in this area. In fact, we awarded it a of A- in that category. When facilities receive this type of grade in this category it is typically a good sign for resident care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a life or death ailment for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home does not roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Facility Inspections
Lastly, this facility also earned excellent government inspection reports in recent years. We awarded it one of our best scores in that area, with an elite grade of A-. Few other facilities can boast of receiving an A- or better in all four categories. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
