Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this place ended up being a great nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this very important category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are quite minor. This facility was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to cause an imminent risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was awarded an A+ short-term care grade, rendering it one of the few facilities to be given more than one A+ category grades. Short-term care grades are important for individuals looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a broad scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Remarkably, this nursing home provides about 50% more services from physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is a very favorable sign. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who returned home from this facility. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in this area with 57.1 percent of its patients returning home. Most facilities are below 50 percent in this statistic.
Nurse Quality
Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. Nursing scores are based largely on levels of nurse staffing. This particular facility provided 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Roughly a quarter of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. Both of these figures easily beat out the national average. Lastly, this facility also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its patients suffering falls leading to serious injury, this place performed better than the national average.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we assessed was long-term care. This facility received a better than average nursing rating in our assessment, with a B. While this was not as good as a few of its other grades, this remains one of the more favorable scores for that area. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 93.61702 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is slightly below what we expected but still a reasonably acceptable figure. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
