Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this ended up being a strong nursing home is that it earned an impressive inspection grade. Inspections is its best category. In this area, we gave this facility an A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection scores. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these can be relatively minor. This particular nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility really excelled in the category of long-term care, where it received a score of A-. Very few nursing homes performed more favorably in this area. Nursing homes that do well in long-term care tend to provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 96.42857 percent of its residents, which is more than the average nursing home. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility received its second lowest grade in the area of short-term care. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in this area, which is not a very impressive score. In computing our short-term care scores, we assess a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. This area is more often than not a useful measure of a facility's rehabilitation services. In this nursing home's case, we found that it offers fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the average facility. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The next category we assessed was nursing. We gave this facility a grade of D in the area of nursing, rendering this its worst area. There are numerous criteria included in this area. Many of the data points are tied to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This place averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. While this nursing home's nursing hours are below average, it actually surprised us in some of the qualitative data points in this category. In particular, we were pleased to see that its residents appear to be sustaining fewer pressure ulcers than most nursing homes.
