Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Inspection scores weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 6 deficiencies on its inspection report. In addition to having severe deficiencies, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

We were also pleasantly surprised to discover that this nursing home received a reasonably solid short-term care grade this year. We awarded it a C in that category. Our short-term care grades are believed to be more critical for those requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of skilled nursing. This means not only nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, this facility was below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. The real question is whether this also affected quality of care. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients that eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 5.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

Remarkably, we awarded this nursing home a grade of C for our nursing rating, which isn't a bad grade. Our nursing rating includes many subcategories. The most heavily weighted one is the quantity of hours nurses spend with patients. This nursing home averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily, which is a very low figure. Finally, although this place got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it excelled in some of our quality-based metrics. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it fared well in this subcategory.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next category we analyzed is long-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this area, which is an abysmal grade. When nursing homes receive this kind of score in this category it is typically a bad sign for patient care and it may mean that the facility is not as well-staffed. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. We were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated 41.225624 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be several points lower than average. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
