Facility Inspections
In addition to being a strong facility overall, it also earned A+ government inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually perfect. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating these inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively insignificant. This facility was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was given an impressive long-term care grade. In fact, we gave it an above average score of B+ in this area. Facilities that excel in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.89 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
Additionally, this nursing home also was given favorable short-term care scores this year. In fact, we gave it one of our higher scores in that area, with a score of B. In our short-term care score, we seek to craft a sound barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze the nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that were able to return home from this facility. This facility performed better in this area than in its staffing levels. This place fared as well as just about any facility in this area with 60.3 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to the fourth area, this nursing home was given an acceptable nursing grade. Even though this was not as strong as several of its other category grades, this is still not the end of the world. There are quite a few factors included in this area. Most of these criteria reflect the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, our nursing grades also consider some quality-focused metrics. We like to look at the percent of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. These statistics are decent indicators of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
