Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

On top of being a first rate facility overall, this nursing home also excelled in the category of nursing, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes fared better in this area. Our nursing rating is primarily based on a facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility North Dakota in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a protocol of moving a resident even once per day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

Another reason we graded this facility so highly is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is flat out as strong as it gets in this category. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. One of the statistics we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths for the aged 65 and up population. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

We gave this facility an A for our inspections rating. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Moving on to the final category, this nursing home was awarded a highly favorable short-term care grade. In fact, we gave it an A- in this category, resulting in this facility receiving straight A's. Our short-term care grades are critical for patients needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This includes a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
