Facility Inspections
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. Inspection grades are tied to several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to patient safety. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
Sadly, this facility only earned a D for its short-term care rating, which was actually one of its more respectable category grades. Short-term care grades are typically employed to judge a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to have highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally must offer higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. With its score in this category, we were not surprised to find that this place is well below average in terms of the quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its patients based on the figures we assessed. Honestly, this was what we expected here. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients that eventually returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 5.2 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.

Nurse Quality
We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. We scrutinized the qualifications of nurses working for the facility, as well as the quantity of time those nurses spent with patients, in determining our rating in this area. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This place fared well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these metrics to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the last area, this nursing home did not perform very well here either. With a very poor grade of F in long-term care, this is about as as uninspiring as it gets. For patients in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. After we finished looking at the quantity of nursing care, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. We were pleased to find that this nursing home vaccinates 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
