Facility Inspections
While we didn't give this nursing home a good overall grade, we actually gave it a strong grade in the category of inspections, where it earned a B. Inspection ratings are tied to several datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these reports. Most importantly, you should avoid nursing homes that have severe deficiencies associated with risks to resident well being. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.

This nursing home also was given a favorable short-term care score. In fact, we awarded them a grade of B in this area, which happens to be one of our better. In determining our short-term care grades, we scrutinize the facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. This category is frequently a fair assessment of a facility's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. When calculating our nursing scores, we weigh both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this facility actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally an indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at is long-term care. This nursing home was given a very poor grade of F in this category. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in long-term care it is often a bad sign for resident care and it may indicate that the nursing home is not as well-staffed with nurses and aids. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 91.935486 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be somewhat below what we were hoping for but still a decent figure. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually decent at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
