Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

The main reason this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an elite nursing grade. In fact, we gave this facility a grade of A-. In determining our nursing ratings, we weigh both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's long-term care score is one of its better scores. The nursing home received a grade of B- in this area. In a long-term care setting, the primary goal is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. We were optimistic to learn that this facility vaccinated 98.86364 percent of its patients for pneumonia. This nursing home keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home received a solid inspection report this year as well, with few dings from the applicable government inspectors. As a result, it received one of our better grades in that category with a score of B-. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Moving on to our final category, this facility was given a C in short-term care, which we consider to be an acceptable grade. In our short-term care rating, we seek to craft a meaningful measure for rehabilitation. In doing so, we assess the nursing home's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 4.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
