To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
We also wanted to point out the fact that this nursing home performed well in our short-term care rating. We awarded them a dominant score of A+ in this category. Short-term care grades are based in part on a facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a vast scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who returned to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities with 69.9 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.

The third category we assessed is long-term care. Adding to its high-end resume, this facility also excelled in that area. In fact, we awarded it a grade of of A in that area. When facilities receive this kind of score in this category it is typically a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses and aids. This nursing home vaccinated 97.9661 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. This combination proved to be successful as this place keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.94 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
The fourth area we looked at is nursing, where this facility received an A. This finished off a very favorable profile. Not many facilities received an A- or better in all four categories. In calculating a nursing home's nursing score, we weigh the quantity of hours nurses are seeing patients and the levels of training of the nurses. This particular facility provided 4.1 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This was one of the higher totals we found. Furthermore, we found that a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. On top of providing high levels of care, this facility also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. With under five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared as well as any place the country in this category. This is typically an indicator that a place has reliable quality controls. Many pressure ulcers can be avoided by providing better nursing care and a system of moving residents more frequently.
