Facility Inspections
On top of earning a strong overall rating, this facility also excelled in our inspections category, which is based on the facility's inspection reports. In fact, we awarded it an A- in that area. Arguably the most important factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily something to panic about.
Short-term Care Quality
Contributing to its high-end assessment, this nursing home also received a superb short-term care score, with a score of A-. Our short-term care scores are believed to be most meaningful for individuals in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing. This includes not only nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Finally, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home, which as an area this nursing home performed much more favorably. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes with 60.4 percent of its residents returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A- in our nursing category. We scrutinized the qualifications of nurses working for the facility, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses spent with patients, in calculating our score in this category. With 4.1 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home surpassed the overwhelming majority of facilities. Finally, this place was also above average in each of the major quality measures we assessed in this category. It performed well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to our final area, this facility was given a strong long-term care grade. While this is not as impressive as several of its other category grades, this is still one of the more impressive grades we offer. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. After looking at the significant amount of nursing hours provided by this nursing home, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is far higher than the average nursing home. The last statistic we assessed is the nursing home's hospitalization rate. We found that this facility had 3.83 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this wasn't as impressive as most of its other scores in this category, this figure may be skewed for some nursing homes based on some of the preexisting medical conditions of patients.
