Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

One of the reasons this turned out to be a quality facility is it received a very impressive short-term care rating. Short-term care is its best category. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of A-. In the category of short-term care, we seek to qualify measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. It does not look like this nursing home provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 6.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this nursing home received excellent government inspections in recent years. We gave them one of our better scores in that category, with an B+. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A few relatively minor dings are not the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The third most favorable area we gave this nursing home in any category came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a B-. In the category of long-term care, we focus on the amount of care offered by a nursing home, as opposed to more healthcare-oriented services. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. We were somewhat surprised to discover that this facility vaccinated just 87.87879 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Nevertheless, this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final category we assessed was nursing. We awarded this nursing home a grade of B- in this category. We analyzed the skill-level of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of hours the nurses worked with patients, in calculating our score in this area. This particular facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This figure is significantly below the national average. Lastly, our nursing scores also consider quality-based metrics, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this place performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is usually a good indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a facility provides enough nurses aids to assist its residents.
