Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Sadly, this nursing home only earned a D for its long-term care rating, which happens to be one of its higher category scores. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. One of the statistics we considered on top of nurse's aid hours was vaccines. Thankfully, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 99.25373 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this facility also keeps its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

In addition, we gave this nursing home an F in the category of short-term care. Our short-term care scores are vital for prospective residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This means a vast scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we assessed the number of patients that eventually returned home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The final area we graded was nursing. We gave it a lowly F for this area, which is a bottom of the barrel score. We weighed the skill-level of nurses employed by the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time the nurses were with residents, in computing our rating in this area. This nursing home provided only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is an alarmingly low total. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing scores. This nursing home fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these statistics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
