Facility Inspections

Grade: A

On top of being a quality facility overall, this facility really excelled in our inspections category, where it received an A. Not many facilities performed better in this category. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

This nursing home also was given a strong short-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. Short-term care grades are critical for people looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically requires higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a broad spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we considered in this category is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that 6.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Additionally, this facility also was given favorable long-term care scores in our assessment. Indeed, we awarded it one of our better grades in that area, with a score of B. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 96.35194 percent of its patients, which is better than the average nursing home. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The next area we looked at was nursing. We gave this facility a D in the area of nursing, making this the facility's worst category grade. The nursing grade is based on quite a few data points, many of which are tied to nursing hours. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing scores. This place fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
