Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

The primary reason this nursing home received a decent overall grade is its impeccable government inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better grades in that area, with a grade of A-. This is a notably better score than the place's overall grade, which was decent but not in the elite range. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area generally have very few severe deficiencies. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In addition, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B+ in our nursing category. This is one of our better grades. Nursing scores are primarily associated with the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next highest area is short-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a B-. Our short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a vast spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents that were able to return home from this facility. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility's worst area was long-term care, which is the last area we assessed. For this category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of D. Facilities that do not fare well in this category typically aren't as well-staffed and are lagging in a few of the areas of routine personal care we looked at. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 93.030304 percent of its patients. This is a few points below what we were hoping for but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. Surprisingly, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best score in this category.
