Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To go along with its relatively modest overall score, we awarded this nursing home an A for our inspections rating. This score is far more impressive than its overall score. Arguably the most important factor we look at in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this category typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This nursing home was assessed 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies an imminent risk to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home also was given a positive grade in our short-term care category. We gave this nursing home a better than average grade of B in this category. Short-term care grades are often used to grade a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to offer high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients that returned home from this nursing home. We found that 4.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facility's next best category grade came in the area of nursing. In that category, we gave this nursing home a grade of B-. When determining a facility's nursing rating, we consider the amount of time nurses commit to patients and the level of skill of the nurses. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Finally, while this place got docked a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of our quality-based metrics. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this statistic.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we looked at is long-term care. We gave it a C in this category. This is a perfectly acceptable grade in this area. For residents looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is an important category. Once we finished looking at the volume of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. We were optimistic to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. This place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
