To go along with a strong overall grade, we gave this nursing home an A- for our inspections rating. Our inspection ratings weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this area usually have few of these severe deficiencies. This place was hit with 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This indicates that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Among its many dominant grades, this facility was awarded a strong short-term care score. In fact, it received a score of A- in that area. Short-term care grades are typically used to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to provide good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

This nursing home is also strong in the area of long-term care, where it was awarded a score of B+. It outperformed most nursing homes in this category. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 95.04951 percent of its patients. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

In the final category, this nursing home also received an excellent nursing score, with a B+. This rounded out a very strong report card. Nursing grades are based in large part on levels of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
