Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this ended up being a quality nursing home is it received a very impressive inspection grade. Inspections turned out to be its best category. In this category, we gave this nursing home an A. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better scores in this category tend to have very few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also performed well in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a score of A. Very few nursing homes received a better grade in this category. With our short-term care assessment, we endeavor to forge a meaningful gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at a nursing home's offerings of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final metric we assessed in this area is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. Our nursing score weighs numerous datapoints. The most important one is the amount of time nurses spend with patients. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of moving patients more often.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we rated is long-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a B+. This completed a first-rate profile. Not many facilities received a B+ or better in each of our categories. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are well cared for. After we finished assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia tragically can be a deadly health condition for nursing home residents so we strongly prefer when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
