Short-term Care Quality
One of the reasons this place received a great overall grade is that it received an A+ in short-term care. This is as good as it gets in this category. Short-term care scores are crucial for individuals seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a vast scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. The last statistic we assessed in this area is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. It fared as well as just about any facility in Illinois in this area with 72.3 percent of its residents returning home. For most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-term patients return home.
Facility Inspections
This nursing home also earned an A+ inspection score, making it one of the few nursing homes to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. This score is based on the facility's recent inspections. An A+ in this category is one of the best complements we can pay to a nursing home. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining these inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are quite insignificant. This nursing home was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. When computing our nursing ratings, we weigh both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This place provides an impressive 3.9 hours of nursing care per patient per day. Of this total, nearly one fourth of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which is among the most highly skilled levels of nurses. Lastly, this nursing home was also above average in each of the major quality measures we looked at in this category. For example, it performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home provides.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at ended up being this nursing home's poorest category. However, even in its weakest link we still awarded it an acceptable grade of C in our long-term care category. In the category of long-term care, we look at the amount of care offered by a nursing home, rather than more sophisticated services. This facility's vaccination statistics were not as impressive as its number of nursing hours per resident. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 80.34351 percent of its residents. We would love to see some improvement in this area next year. Fortunately, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.57 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
