Short-term Care Quality
To pair with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. In calculating our short-term care grades, we assess the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This category is typically a useful assessment of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. This facility excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. This is generally an excellent sign. The final metric we assessed in this area is the number of patients that were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in Ohio in this area with 63.2 percent of its patients returning home. At most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this nursing home an A. In determining a facility's nursing score, we look at the amount of time nurses commit to patients and the level of skill of those nurses. This nursing home offers extremely high levels of nursing care, averaging 4.7 hours per patient each day. This is more nursing care than nearly any other nursing home offers. Lastly, this facility was also above average in each of the major quality measures we assessed in this category. For example, it performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a nursing home provides.
Facility Inspections
Tallying another strong category grade, this facility also excelled in inspections, where it received a grade of A. Our inspection scores account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area tend to have few severe deficiencies. This place was hit with 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to our final area, this nursing home was given an extremely favorable long-term care rating. We gave it a B+ in this category, topping off one of our finer report cards. Nursing homes that excel in this category typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. In addition to very favorable nursing hour statistics, this facility's vaccination data is superb as well. Indeed, it vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. This combination proved to be successful as this place keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.35 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
